Backyard Stewardship
Bringing conservation from the countryside to your backyard. Just as they do on the farm, conservation practices on nonagricultural land can help increase food and shelter for birds and other wildlife, control soil erosion, reduce sediment in waterways, conserve water and improve water quality, inspire a stewardship ethic, and beautify the landscape.
Our “Backyard Conservation Kit” shows you how conservation practices that

New Jersey Envirothon
The New Jersey Envirothon is a one-day “environmental Olympic competition” for New Jersey High School students. The event is sponsored each year by New Jersey’s Soil Conservation Districts and our state & federal conservation partners. The Envirothon promotes teamwork, training & problem solving, as well as study in the fields of soils, wildlife, aquatics, forestry, and current environmental issues. Each team consists of five students and one advisor. The statewide contest, an outdoor event, is held in May.
The winners of the NJ Envirothon go on to compete in the National Envirothon as New Jersey’s representative team. Registration information, a brochure and study guides for the Envirothon can be found at http://nj.nacdnet.org/envirothon/. The Team advisor will facilitate training by incorporating hands-on activities with the provided educational study guide. The study guide is also an excellent resource to supplement regular lesson plans or addition to a resource library.
For questions or further details regarding the New Jersey Envirothon, please contact Craig Fisher, Education Coordinator, at 856-767-6299 or email: craig.fisher@camdenscd.org.
