2010 NJ Envirothon
The NJ Envirothon is a one-day “environmental Olympic competition” for New Jersey High School students. The event is sponsored each year by New Jersey’s Soil Conservation Districts and our state & federal conservation partners. The Envirothon promotes teamwork, training & problem solving, as well as study in the fields of soils, wildlife, aquatics, forestry, and current environmental issues. Each team consists of five students and one advisor. The statewide contest, an outdoor event, held by the Gloucester County Soil Conservation Districti on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Camp Sacajawea in Newfield, NJ.
The overall theme for this year’s Envirothon is “Protection of Groundwater through Urban, Agricultural and Environmental Planning.” The winners of the NJ Envirothon go on to compete in the International Envirothon as New Jersey’s representative team, which is being held at the University of California - Merced in Merced, CA. The Team advisor will facilitate training by incorporating hands-on activities with the provided educational study guide. The study guide is also an excellent resource to supplement regular lesson plans or addition to a resource library.
Registration information, a brochure and study guides for the Envirothon can be found at http://njenvirothon.org/.
